Harford County Center for the Arts looking for Photographers for an upcoming event

The Harford County Center for the Arts and the Harford Plein Air Festival is looking  for a couple of photographers to donate their time and services for our event,.

Our goal is to capture the artists painting at specific locations, as well as to document our Collector’s Preview Party and Award Ceremony, and the Quick Draw Competition.   It would be difficult to arrange for “posed” shots with full lighting gear, as we have limited space at the Liriodendron, and we want to utilize as much space as possible for displaying the artwork.  In an ideal situation, our photographer would arrange to visit the Liriodendron with us prior to the event, to get a better understanding of the space, lighting, and artwork.   During the week, the artists will be painting outdoors at various locations within Harford County.  We would like to have a photographer at Ladew Gardens, as well as in Havre de Grace (see the schedule below).

Self Portrait Projects on the Web

Here are two creative self portrait projects recently seen on the web.

Airplane Lavatory Self-Portraits

lav2

Nina Katchadourian whiles away long plane journeys by locking herself in the lavatory and pretending to be a 15th century Dutch painting. The project began spontaneously on a flight in March 2010 and is ongoing…

Borderline Insane Self-Portraits

art10

Iiu Susiraja creates extremely odd self-portraits that she calls “art”. I’m not sure what message she’s trying to deliver, but I am entertained, that’s for sure.

Opportunity for Photography Students Thursday April 21st.

My name is Raquel Minwell. I have been asked by a local non profit, 100+ Baltimore to find a photography student who is interested in taking photos for their event this Thursday Night at Union Brewery.  This is not a paid gig but it could be a great opportunity for someone who is interested in adding event work to their portfolio. Up until now the organization has taken all of their photos with cellphones so this could be a great opportunity to shine. Additionally, this is an event that they hold quarterly so there could be more opportunities to work with them.

Below is more info from David, my contact at 100+ about the assignment. I am looking to find someone to fill this position quickly as the event is this Thursday April 21. Please contact me with any questions raqui@raqwell.com.

From David:

We are looking for a local photographer interested helping us grow! Our 1st priority is event photos since all photos to date have been taken from our cellphones:

https://www.facebook.com/100plusbaltimore/photos_stream?tab=photos_albums
Our events are setup to be around 100 minutes: 50 minutes social/50 minutes business. We would like photography to begin after everyone has arrived, so closer to the end of the social portion through the rest of the event
We are really hoping to capture the idea that 100+ Baltimore is fun and easy opportunity for anyone to make a real impact to our local Baltimore community, without time-consuming fundraising and planning: 100+ people, $100 each, 100 minutes of their time. Right now, we are focused on building our membership towards 100+ people from the 15+ we have today.
We currently have 2 sponsors, and are always looking for new ways to promote them since this is what we offer in return for their support:
Event venue (eg Union Craft Brewing)
D’Anna Printing & Promotionals, Inc.(www.dannaprints.com) who provides our promotional items like the big check.

We are also open to a photographer providing photos for our Instagram account where we post fun photos of all the reasons we love Baltimore, and why we want to to help it B’more. In return for their support, we offer advertisement on our social media:
“Continued Supporter” listing on our website – http://www.100plusbaltimore.com/donation-history.html
Instagram hashtag – #PhotosByRaqwellPhotography for example
Tagging on all Instagram/FB photos

Thank you for your time,
Raqui

Spring Break

We will be closing the labs for spring break on Friday March 11th at 4pm.
The labs will reopen on Sunday March 20th for our normal hours.

I would like to make equipment available to all of our students over the whole break but I know there my not be enough to go around for all those who may want it. We have a holiday schedule set up in Web Check Out which will allow equipment signed out on Thursday 3/10 to be due back on Monday 3/21. This allows a 12-day checkout to span the days we are closed for spring break. There will be a reserve limit of one camera, one extra lens, tripod and lighting kit per student through PIR  (Patron Initiated Reserve). Students can begin to make reservations at 12pm on Monday March 7th for equipment to be picked up anytime after 12 noon Thursday March 10th.

Equipment can be reserved for the break on a first come first served basis through PIR. No phone-in reservations will be accepted and only the student borrowing the equipment may make a reservation. All late fines or invoices must be paid before making reservations. Equipment can’t be checked out any earlier than noon on Thursday March 10th. There will be no renewals granted on items check out over spring break. Nor will we allow items checked out before spring break to be renewed as a spring break checkout. All spring break checkouts will be handled as a new checkout at the photo cage after 12 noon on Thursday March 10th.

To accommodate these loans, all previously checked out equipment must be returned by 10 am Thursday March 10th so it can be ready for the reserved checkouts.

Let me know if you have any questions.

Thanksgiving Break

We will be closing the lab and cage for the Thanksgiving break on Wednesday 11/25 at 3:30pm. The darkrooms and cage will reopen on Saturday 11/28 for regular hours.

We have a holiday schedule set up in Web Check Out which will allow equipment signed out on Tuesday 11/24 to be due back on Monday 11/30. To help make equipment available to the most students there will be limits to the number of resources students will be allowed to sign out. Students can gain the best access to equipment if reserved through the PIR (Patron Initiated Reserve) system in Web Check Out.

Please remember to check umbcphoto.wordpress.com for last minute updates.
