About

The Photo Output Bureau is a low-cost, fee-based digital output service center available to UMBC Visual Arts faculty, students and staff. We use 44” wide Epson ink jet printers with Ultrachrome archival pigment inks and substrates which, when properly cared for, offer non-fading prints that will last as long or longer than traditional photographic media. We stock 16”, 17”, 24” and 44” rolls of a variety of Epson papers. Pricing is based on the combination of the square-footage area of your print, selected print quality and the cost of the type of paper chosen.

Regardless of the size of your image, square footage is based upon the amount of paper used; therefore, either 16”, 17”, 24” or  44” will always be one of the dimensions used to calculate the  square footage of your print output. Typically orders can be printed within 3-5 days during the business week. Longer time may be needed for large orders, special requests and printing during “high-volume” times.   If you need your order within 48 hours we reserve the right to charge a 50% rush fee. We provide your prints ready for you to trim to your required dimensions. We are not responsible for late assignments, color correction, print-trimming or custom work.

We utilize Adobe Photoshop for its advance color management capabilities. Your work will print at its most optimum when saved at a resolution of either 180 or 360 ppi.  Prepare your files to the desired image size and resolution.  Save the image as a flattened file. We accept TIF, PSD, PDF or JPG formats.

You can email files to umbcphoto@gmail.com, or send your image through yousendit, or share your dropbox or box or drop off your order on a flash drive or CD to FA 348.  An order form must accompany your order. Please save it and send it with your order. When using your umbc box account make sure you set the access preference to open and give us the link and password to your shared files or folder.

When your order is complete, the Photo Output Bureau staff will send you an E-mail detailing your total charges.  Payment can only be accepted using the UMBC Campus Card.  Add funds to your card at campus vending stations or access the Personal Finances feature through “My UMBC” to add funds to your card before picking up your prints.  Pay for and pick up the completed prints at the Photo Cage during posted Photo Cage or POB hours only.
